My Life Can Be VERY Hectic At Times

I know I have not blogged in such a long time but between my full-time job(*can be draining*), moving house(*exciting*) and my Honors and Master's Degrees(*gotta do it*)... my life tends to get too hectic at times and leaves me no time to do the things I truly love, such as blogging and travelling. Last night while I lay in exhaustion at the new apartment, I was told I had to submit an assignment last week Monday. I have a back-log of work and I am nowhere near being done with my Master's Research proposal which was due weeks ago *heavy sigh* I am not complaining though, it is the life I chose and I am happy with it, crazy times and all.

I miss you guys (people who read my blog) and it won't be long before order is restored again.

Till then, sending you all my love.

Hair Chopping Frenzy

I am more convinced now than ever that I am definitely going through a subconscious transformation. Latest yearning, which I can absolutely not ignore,is to chop some of my hair off. This Saturday is the day I will do that. Here are some pictures that inspired me to go right ahead and do it.

Here's to having guts and being stylish!!

Fashion Friday - The Story Behind Today's Outfit

Its Friday and not only is it the weeeeeeekeeeeeeend baybay, its also Fashion Friday.! I woke up feeling rebellious today, if I knew a good stylist I would go there right now and have my hair cut. Anyhow, here is the story behind today's outfit.

Ensemble Breakdown:
  • Grey Ripped Jeans - There is a I came-I saw-I bought story behind these. Was on my way to class last year around May when I saw them at Foschini, I bought them and changed into them right after buying them then proceeded to class. I can be that spontaneous when it comes to clothing. My heart was later shredded into tiny pieces (literally) when I saw the exact same pair at Mr. Price at half the price.! They have been altered many times and because I wore them to work today, I had to wear leggings underneath as they show a LOT of skin.
  • Shoes - These have seen their days. I remember the MAD SALE (half-price-on-everything-that-had-already-been-marked-half-price kinda sale!) that was at Edgars just before Winter began last year where I bought these and four other pairs of shoes for less than R700.00 for ALL FIVE pairs including two Sissy Boy pairs.!
  • Belt - Even though I do not remember the details, I am convinced it came with a pair of jeans bought at Identity.
  • Vest - Bought at two for the price of one price aWoolworths
  • Biker Jacket - Its my investment jacket, I love its soft leather feel. I bought it at Identity (I am a regular there).
  • Bag - Got it as a birthday gift from my then work colleagues when I turned 23. I love it so much.
  • Sunglasses  - Bought for less than R50.00 at Mr. Price
  • Watch - Bought at Claire's when I had won the R5000.00 shopping spree voucher.

Happy Birthday To ELLE Magazine South Africa

ELLE Magazine South Africa turns 15 years!! Here's to wishing them an amazing 15th birthday and I wish them many more fashion-filled-fabulous years! ELLE is by far thee most stylish teenager I know ;-)

The April Issue - Birthday Issue! Out in stores today.

15 Things I Love About ELLE:
  • Its only R29.95 - can you say value-for-money?
  • Its Style Packed!
  • I can relate to their fashion articles, the pieces they use are not outrageously expensive.
  • L-O-V-E the beauty section.
  • It ALWAYS speaks to my inner stylish being, just by looking at the cover alone.
  • It strikes the perfect balance between local and international.
  • All their cover girls are phenomenon.(They don't put just about anyone on the cover.)
  • There are always some real-life issues we can all relate to.
  • It sometimes takes the role of a big sister with financial advice.
  • ELLE has valuable sex tips *giggles*.
  • The ELLE team is engaging, i.e. they even tweet back on Twitter.
  • I get to read in depth about my favorite celebrities on it, kinda exclusive.
  • ELLE competitions, even though I have never won any, are the coolest.
  • Its easily available. Have you ever tried looking for some magazines on shop shelves?
  • I can sum up ELLE in three words: gloss, glossy, glossier! Try reading a non-glossy magazine..too dreadful.

You too can wish them an amazing birthday by following them on Twitter ELLEmagazineSA

Let Us Refrain From Cashing In On The Disaster That Befell Japan

This morning, as I was going through the blogs on my blog list, it was with utter shock (very mildly put) that I discovered that fellow fashionistas are cashing in on the disaster that befell Japan, in the name of "donating" .

Read The Glamourai "Jewels For Japan" article HERE

Before I vent, I want everyone reading this to understand that I love and follow Kelly Framel of The Glamourai and I appreciate that she is contributing some(10%) of the money that she will receive from the sales of the jewelery she will sell towards the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief fund, she is doing so much more than some people (myself included) BUT this strikes me as a "Buy-my-jewelery-to-show-that-you-support-Japan" advert which in turn comes across as those ever dreaded, "Forward-to-ten-people-or-God-will-kill-your-loved-ones" emails. Emotional blackmail much? One blogger even commented and said  "any good intention that you had behind this post is shaded by the fact that you will be ultimately profiting from this disaster."

Let me state that she did provide a link for people (who did not feel inclined to shop) to donate directly to the Red Cross fund but I am still shaking my head at her for trying to profit from other people's suffering.

Again, this leads me the initial point I wanted to state, let us refrain from cashing in on the disaster that befell Japan.!! Donate money from the goodness of your heart not because you want to push sales for your own personal gain and benefit.

MY personal opinion.

Christian Louboutin - Never To Be Missed Sale!!

You know Christian Louboutin has a serious sale if Uyanda Mbuli tweets about it. Yesterday, Uyanda tweeted about a Christian Louboutin sale that will allow most people to break their Christian Louboutin virginity, I'm talking R7900 to R2400 per pair!!

I later received a tweet from a user Cindylouboutin who stated that there was a 70% off sale and free shipping worldwide.

I am going GAGA! over these!!

Visit  the Christian Louboutin Website for more details and the wide variety of shoes they have on sale. Some are as "cheap" as R1400 per pair. Can you afford these shoes? Are you gonna be buying a pair or two or....three ?

Two Reasons Why I Wish I was Dark Skinned

Those reasons are Ataui and Ajak Deng. Somalian models taking the fashion world by storm.

Ajak Deng

Ataui Deng

I was very shocked to learn that they aren't even related. Both from Somalia, they share a last name and are very good friends. How epic is that?!

Ajak moved to Australia and Ataui to the USA. I'm in awe! Such beauty!

Saturday Classes - What I Wore

Remember when the year started, on this blog here I told ya'll about what I was looking forward to this year and one of those things was getting my Honours and eventually Master's Degrees. Well, I'm currently in the process of finishing my Honours Degree and have already started with My Master's research and it is for those two reasons that I find myself at University on Saturdays attending classes. Here is what I wore this past Saturday.

Ensemble breakdown:
  • Jumpsuit - I bought this jumpsuit when I was in Pretoria on business. I saw it hanging on a "Vintage shop" window and I knew I had to get it. It was VERY cheap as well, like less than R100.00 cheap! I'm in love with it.
  • Shoes - Bought the sling-back-peep-toe heels at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town when I went down for the J&B Met. Can't remember how much they cost nor the name of the shop where I bought them. They are one of those shoes I could wear every single day (If I could).
  • Bag - My beloved inheritance (also known as 'my second skin' lol). I should name it now, don't you think? *Me thinks* How about "Second Skin"? ;-)
  • Sunglasses - I could have bought those at Mr. Price or Foxy, honestly cannot remember.
  • Watch - I know it looks like those expensive "Ice" watches but I actually bought it at Claire's for a measly R120.00 Tres chic!
Putting a little thought into my outfits gives me motivation to go to class every weekend...weird but TRUE!

Some Roberto Cavalli For You

My fellow fashion lovers, let us indulge in some Roberto Cavalli.

Creative Ingenuity

This dress right here is pure creative ingenuity! I will be having one sewn for me and make the bottom part 'zippeable' in such a way that it can come off.

I Am Scouting For These Shoes

I saw these shoes on some lady last week Wednesday when Kea and I went out to Cocoon. I am looking for them, says she bought them at Aldo, I went to Eastgate and couldn't find them.

If you have seen these in a size 7 anywhere, please drop me an email; kokonutstylis@gmail.com. Thanking you in advance.

Pray For Japan

Its sad to wake up to bad news. An 8.4 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan and over 3000 people have been reported dead. Please pray for the lovely people of Japan.

May God bless Japan and all those affected by this disaster.
I am heartbroken, I take such things to heart.

Fashion Friday - The Story Behind Today's Outfit

Firstly, its the weeeeekeeeend baybay!!! That means, happy Friday to you and yours. Every Friday is Fashion Friday and that translates to proudly-wear-something-made-in-South-Africa-day but I couldn't help putting together this 70s inspired outfit with some non-South-African pieces. There is a story behind every outfit and here is mine;

Fashion Friday Outfit
  • Jeans - Oldest pair of jeans I own, bought for me by my brother in law in Malaysia in 2005. Haven't worn them since my university days. Revived them because of their 'bell bottom' feel.
  • Bag - My vintage inheritance which I blogged about HERE! I inherited this from my big sister who also got it from my mom. I LOVE it and have been carrying it almost everyday ever since I got it.
  • Shoes - These shoes are by Sequel (not sure if that is SA made, I tried Googling it). They were a measly R220.00 I normally would not say this about clogs but these clogs are the future!
  • Belt - This came with a pair of jeans I bought from Identity.
  • Vest - Can't remember how I bribed my niece into giving me this vest. Its from Top Shop.
  • Neck-piece - I got it for a song at Mr. Price, many moons ago.
  • Watch - I bought it when I had my big sister's credit card (Isn't she the bestest?) Its from Tempo.
  • Sunglasses  - Part of my collection of over 50 sunglasses and this pair is from Mr. Price.
Confession - I am utterly OBSESSED with watches and sunglasses and will (one day soon) blog about my collection

Reflection - The Girl In The Mirror (Self Indulgent)

Picture with bright outfit was taken last year at the Channel O Music Video Awards. Picture with animal print was taken last night. I am loving the girl I am seeing in the mirror these days. There is absolutely nothing as fulfilling as setting goals and achieving them.

Blake Lively Chanel Mademoiselle Handbag Ambassador

Firstly, I have to tell you that Blake Lively is living my life. She is skinny, has drop-dead-gorgeous legs and now she is the ambassador for Chanel Mademoiselle handbags...I seriously cant dzeal, I just dzie!! I am happy for her and Imma let her finish but that should be me(said with a very straight face) *Jealous Much!*. OK, now that we have gotten rid of the green eyed monster, let's get back to Blake Lively being the ambassador of Chanel Mademoiselle handbags.

Pictured here with Karl Hilfiger who personally approached Blake and asked her to be the Ambassador for Chanel Mademoiselle handbags.

    Tres Chic!

With Uncle Karl. Those legs Blake, those legs!!

Blake has described this opportunity as a dream come true. I love me a grateful chick, way to go boo.!

    I -CANNOT-BREATHE!

As if being a Chanel Ambassador was not enough, Blake has a Christian Louboutin shoe named after her. Its called "The Blake". Surely she must have done something right to deserve all this.

Blake is such an inspiration to me (for many reasons) and I love her so much. Big ups to her for such phenomenon achievements. I'm sure Coco Chanel is smiling from her grave, they just could not have found a more perfect ambassador, even if they tried. Viva la Blake.!

    TREND ALERT! Color And Cut

We are living in fun fashion times and this could not be more interesting with the tasteful use of color that SOME of our wardrobes will soon be experiencing. I'm talking slim cut, bright colored pants.!

If you follow fashion, get these pants - Order! By Management! :-) Recently seen in Zara's spring summer 2011 collection (Like, why don't we have Zara in South Africa again??!).

I say, why wait till the African Spring or Summer to pop some color? Do it now in Autumn/WINTER!! I will be getting these done for me when I go to Swaziland next weekend, my designer Pam can do it with her eyes closed and I bet it wont cost me more than  R1,000.00 for 5 bright-colored pants. Yes I want them ALL.! Now, to get the perfect material.!

( I CANNOT wait to blog about them and show you my pictures!!)
